After more than 80 years of development, the world fluorine chemical industry has become one of the relatively mature chemical industries; the sales of the global fluorides has exceeded USD 23 billion and the average growth rate is 3.8% for recent five years.

At present, by virtue of monopoly business and acquisitions & restructuring, the global fluorine chemical industry have formed the top eight transnational fluorine chemical groups which mainly concentrate in the US, Japan and West Europe. These top eight companies respectively refer to DuPont, Solvay, Daikin, 3M, Asahi Glass, Arkema, Ineos Fluor and Honeywell, all of which account for 80% of the world output of fluorine materials and 70% of the fluorine chemicals.

China's fluorine chemical industry started from the 1950s and after more than 50 years of development, it has formed the complete category and top four classes of product series, namely fluorinated alkanes, fluoropolymers, inorganic fluorides and fluorine-containing fine chemicals. As of the end of 2012, there were more than 1,000 enterprises that engaged in the fluorine chemical in China; the total production capacity of China's fluorine chemical products reached 3.85 million tons with the output of about 2.42 million tons; China has become the major country of the global fluorine chemical production and consumption.

At present, the market concentration ratio of the top ten enterprises in the Chinese fluorine chemical industry is close to 40%, which is very high; the domestic enterprisers have some competitive advantages in the low-end fluorine chemical products close to the raw materials and have the weak competitiveness in the product fields with high added value, high processing depth and high technical requirements; such fields are basically dominated by the foreign enterprises.

Under the major background of current economic shifting, a lot of new application of fluorine chemical products is springing up and becoming the new growth points of fluorine chemical products. The new energy, new materials, energy saving and environmental protection, electronic information, high-end medicines, pesticides, textile and other fields are needing more and more fluorine-containing fine chemicals, such as solar battery back materials, lithium battery separator, fuel cell separator, vanadium redox flow battery separator, fluorinated aesthetics, fluorinated liquid crystal materials, fluorinated cooling medium of large engine units and fluorinated fabric finishing agents etc.; the profit margin of some high added-value rare products can reach more than 50%. The development of such products can promote the fluorine chemical industry to adjust the product structure and achieve the industrial upgrading.

According to China's Fluorine Chemical Industry 12th-Five-Year Development Planning, as of the end of 12th-Five-Year, the total production capacity of China's various fluorine chemical products will reach 4.5 million tons and form the advanced fluorine chemical manufacturing system with the characteristics of technical innovation, industry cluster, manufacturing informatization, standard internationalization and resource integration.
