• Real estate was the largest asset class for Italian HNWIs in 2015, with 23.4% of total HNWI assets, followed by equities with 19.2%, fixed income with 16.4%, cash and deposits with 15.7%, business interests with 14.9% and alternatives with 10.5%. 

• Equities recorded the highest growth during the review period at a rate of 51.3%, followed by alternatives and business interests at respective rates of 22.8% and 20.0%.

• Alternative assets held by Italian HNWIs increased from 9.3% to 10.5% between 2011 and 2015. HNWI allocations to commodities decreased from 2.4% to 1.6% of total assets during this period. 

• WealthInsight expects allocations in commodities to remain same over the forecast period, at 1.6% of total HNWI assets by 2020.

• Italian HNWI liquid assets valued US$529.6 billion as of 2015, representing 51.2% of total wealth holdings.
