WDM, also known as ‘wavelength-division multiplexing,’ is a technology across fiber-optic communications. It transmits multiple optical carrier signals on one optical fiber by utilizing ‘laser light’ wavelengths. This procedure facilitates capacity multiplications and bidirectional communications over one fiber strand. ‘WDM’ generally pertains to optical carriers (denoted by their wavelengths).

On the contrary, ‘frequency-division multiplexing’ normally caters to radio carriers. As the frequency & wavelength stick to each other via an easy directly inverse relation, the 2 terms essentially indicate the same notion. In this inverse relation, the product of wavelength & frequency is equivalent to the transmission speed of light. The WDM filter modules market consists of filters that are adjusted as per specific wavelength bands.

WDM filter devices are based on the technology of ‘Thin Film Filter’ (TFF). They are widely used in Raman amplifiers, EDFA, fiber optics instrumentation, and WDM systems. WDM filter series are based on ecologically-stable ‘TFF’ technology. They separate or combine light at various wavelengths. WDM filter modules provide low polarization reliance, very less insertion loss, and high isolation.

These characteristics bode well for the market and drive its sales. Also, the aforementioned modules’ brilliant eco-stability is estimated to have a positive market impact in the near future. WDM systems are well-recognized across telecom firms as they enable the latter to grow their network capacities without placing extra fibers. Majority of WDM systems run on single-mode fiber optical cables.

Initial ‘wavelength-division multiplexing’ networks were costly & complex to operate. However, recent consistency and enhanced comprehension of ‘WDM system’ dynamics have made WDM less costly to install. The WDM filter modules market is split by products and geographies. Single mode and multi mode constitute the products.

Single mode modules are further divided on the basis of L band supervisory filters, C band supervisory filters, L band red/blue filters, C band red/blue filters, and others. Multi mode products are fragmented in view of triplexers, 1310/1550nms, and 850/1310nms.
