Chinese Home Appliance Industry and Market, May 2015

This research report presents recent month review of shipment volume and sales value of four major Chinese home appliances categories: washing machine, refrigerator, air conditioner, and LCD TV; also included are sales volume share of China's top-10 home appliance vendors in each category; top-10 home appliance sales volume ranking with breakdowns by types of models offered in each category, by model and ASP. The content of this report is based on secondary data obtained from National Bureau of Statistics of China, State Information Center of China and public information made available by international and Chinese home appliance brands. According to statistics released by China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) on May 21, 10 out of 12 major home appliances witnessed over 20% sequential growth in April alone, including home refrigerator (29.7%), air conditioner (27.5%) and washing machine (34.4%). From January to April, home refrigerator, air conditioner, and washing machine grew 28.8%, 30%, and 38.7%, respectively, compared to the same period of 2014. It is noteworthy that the replacement demand triggered by the government's funded project "Home Appliances Going to the Countryside" has made the largest contribution to Chinese home appliance market growth. As of April 25, 2015, the accumulated home appliance sales value and volume generated from the project topped around 40 billion RMB (US$6.4 billion) and 10.3 million units.
